Volkswagen will be hosting the largest gathering for owners of Transporter campervans on the 12th – 14th September at Three Counties Showground in Malvern. There is expected to be a turnout of around 8,000 vehicles spanning five generations. There will be prizes for the best kept models from fifty years old to the present day. To keep the crowds amused there’ll be live performances, cookery contests, exclusive VW displays and trade stands packed with goodies.
Back in March VW showed off its Golf TDi hybrid design study which used a high tech diesel engine, electric motor and 7-speed-DSG technology. They promised we’d be seeing a lot more of their lithium-ion technology by 2010 and they have now hit another crucial milestone towards this – a collaboration with Sanyo (a leading expert in the electric energy market). VW’s hybrid vehicles will be able to run on conventional diesel or a mixture of diesel and electricity but in order for mass production of these cleaner vehicles there needs to be powerful energy storage systems to cope with the demand.
